Linfield Place-Kicker Josh Kay (#7) should have a monster 2012 season for the 'Cats. |
Last week, Linfield place-kicker Josh Kay (Sr.) was named to the 2012 Fred Mitchell Outstanding Kicker Watch List. The watch list includes 44 kickers from the FCS (former I-AA), Division II, Division III, NAIA, and the Juco ranks. Out of the 750 kickers eligible being in the near top 6 percent in the country is remarkable company.
In fact, this is not Kay's first time being in front of the Fred Mitchell selection committee as Josh was a 2011 finalist (top 10) for his outstanding 2011 campaign for the 'Cats. Kay was Linfield's leading scorer in racking up 103 point by way of 16 field goals (16 out of 19) and nailing a near perfect 55 out of 56 PAT's. That effort captured 1st Team All-Northwest Conference honors and 2nd team All-Region honors by D3football.com.
Kay's accuracy and range made him an indispensable weapon for Coach Smith and the Linfield staff as Josh booted four field goals of 40 yards or longer. Josh was a perfect 7-7 from 20-29 yards out, 5-6 from 30-39, 4-5 from 40-49, and 0-1 from 50 yards or further. His season long came against Puget Sound were Josh nailed a 49 yard FG.
Along with his field goal excellence, Kay was near automatic in PAT's in rattling off 55 of 56 tries. His lone miss was on his 36th attempt when Menlo was able to block the PAT to give Kay his lone blemish during 2011.
Linfield players, staff, and fans are looking for more during Kay's senior season and he'd be the first one to tell you that he's looking forward to the challenge of taking his game to another level.
